Peel Town Commissioners were established
in 1883 with the elected Commissioners being responsible
for “paving, cleansing, lighting and watching
the streets…… And for making and keeping
in repair public sewers therein, and otherwise improving
the Town”

The original Minute Book (still
held at the Town Hall) shows that the very first
meeting of the Board of Commissioners took place
on 15th May 1884 at the Courthouse, Crown Street.
The newly appointed Commissioners were Messrs Joughin,
Graves, Keig, Watson and Mylchreest.
